I hope this weekly column, albeit on sports, at least puts politics on the same field. For any of you who have read "Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail" from his Rolling Stone days, (and others) and have missed that perspective in this race, let's pray for guidance.
Too bad Thompson's not covering politics actively any more. It seems to me that in the past decade he's become pretty well disgusted with the new lows being achieved, both in the personal calibre of the players as well as the lowest-common denominator type of pickles they seem to gravitate towards.
On another (related) topic, does it seem odd, with all the casinos in Florida (indian reservations) with all of their closed circuit hi-tech security surveillance, that the recounts are now taking place behind closed doors, now out of reach of the press, the cameras, and hence the rest of us? Makes a body wonder.
