So there HAS to be a transistor circuit that uses low voltage to actually switch off the line voltage [110 V], I think. If the switching transistors are flakey, they might turn the power back on when your back is turned. But I would first plug the pc directly into the wall receptacle and run it that way for a few days. [The UPS also has switching transistors. It senses when house power goes off and switches the pc to the battery].

I'm just guessing - hopefully intelligently.
