I jumped over to the Nasdaq home page expecting to be able to call up a chart of the exchange since 1971. Couldn't do it...don't know the symbol.

As for previous drops greater than 50%, in the late 20's early 30's, the DOW lost nearly 90% if memory serves me correctly.
