WOW - local San Diego TV news (KUSI), a CNN affiliate, just ran a 2 minute diss of the Pentium 4. Phrases like "new Intel chip disappoints. Intel says it will encode your MP3's 25% faster BUT the new computers are very expensive and are not faster for most users."

I couldn't believe my ears, this CNN program must have aired on hundreds of stations around the country. They even showed the headline of the PC World review scrolling on the screen (Intel's Pentium 4: A 1.5-GHz Letdown) and quoted from it. They quoted from another review saying that most users would be better served to buy an older Pentium 3 or an Advanced Micro Devices chip. They also had Drew Peck (I think), saying that Pentium 4 won't help Intel's profits much for at least six months because it is a niche product.

KUSI is not an all-news station but does have four hours of news a day. It is not a CNN atation, just an affiliate. They use some CNN stories to fill in about a third of its coverage which would otherwise by 90% local news. It will be interesting to see if this segment is repeated a couple times tomorrow, as is normal.
