[ Lucent's 5ESS ] I can see why you might have an interest in the Globeview 5ESS-2000, and I will gladly drop by Lucent and pump them for some information and send you a report. The 5ESS sounds great from the outset, it has a lot of capabilities, including remote, and maintains more than half of the core ATM usage, that's a large portion on the market! But I hope you don't mind if I don't share your enthusiasm though, as the 5ESS is a Core Switch, and not an Edge Switch. Dataquest in the past has discussed the weak demand for large Core Switches, Edge switches will enjoy more demand in the next several years. Lucent itself seems to understand this, as last year Lucent signed an OEM deal with General Datacom (GDC) and ADC Kentrox for various WAN ATM products. At the time Lucent also planned to integrate GDC's APEX family of ATM switches into it's Globeview 2000 Broadband System. JW@KSC
