Joshua,
This thread has gone out of it way to welcome and acquaint newcomers to what we're all about. Name another thread that has made even a token effort to do the same.
Thus, I have no sympathy for a newcomer who, failing to take full advantage of what we have so willingly provided to help him or her, plunges into a pebble under discussion here without knowing that the purpose of the discussion is to dissect the issue carefully so informed decisions can be made. Those who infer an endorsement out of our discussions do so at their peril, but it's not our fault.
TFM warns us about listening to extraneous news. Generally speaking, politics is extraneous as an influence on our G's & Ks. It may affect the market as a whole, or particular sectors like financials and drugs, and foreign policy decisions may affect the export market for American farmers, and immigration policy might affect hiring opportunities at the G&Ks. Monetary policy, debatable as to whether this is politics or not, could have an effect on tech exports.
Still, I think most of us here view those as sideline issues because the real driver behind the techs is the need to streamline corporate operations...maintain or obtain a competitive advantage by adopting a new way of doing old things. Until the world reaches a decision to tear down it's infrastructure, the techs will be here, politics or not.
Which is to say, discussing politics here does not advance our understanding of the techs, and many of us consider it wasteful of our time.
