USA Video Interactive to Demo New Wavelet at StreamingMediaWest Conference; EMC to Join in Unveiling New Streaming Media Server Product Line: Hurricane 2 MediaCaster
MYSTIC, Conn., Nov 21, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- USA Video Interactive (OTCBB: USVO; CDNX: US; www.usvo.com) will demonstrate its new, proprietary Wavelet compression technology at the StreamingMediaWest Conference in December. The company will also be joined in its booth by EMC representatives in unveiling its new, high-performance line of media streaming servers, the Hurricane 2 MediaCaster(TM), that provide USA Video Interactive's patented video-on-demand and streaming video technology to customers with unparalleled levels of information reliability, availability and scalability.
The StreamingMediaWest Conference is the world's largest exhibition for streaming, broadband and content companies with more than 15,000 attendees expected. It will be held in San Jose on December 12 to 14.
The Wavelet that will be demonstrated at the conference is a still-image compression technology that competes with JPEG and similar compression techniques. The still-image technology has numerous applications, particularly where it is important to be able to download images quickly or to store them in less space and at higher quality levels than available with other technologies. The still-image product is an interim step in development of a fully operational streaming solution that will be introduced in 2001.
"We're planning some innovative ways of showing just how far we've come with our Wavelet development," said Edwin Molina, President and CEO of USA Video Interactive. "Dr. Gerheim and his team here at USA Video have broken new ground in this technology and we are preparing to move this still-image product into the market for widespread application and licensing at the same time our scientists are finishing development of our streaming Wavelet solution. The applications that can benefit from our still-image compression technology range from websites to digital cameras to digital photos... virtually anything with any type of graphic will see immediate advantages. Reducing download time and improving quality are important factors in our goal of bringing the advantages of the Internet to an ever-wider audience."
The Hurricane 2 MediaCaster(TM) Media Servers being co-demonstrated by EMC and USA Video Interactive feature EMC's family of CLARiiON storage systems to offer a highly reliable, high speed, end-to-end media solution for streaming and video on demand, featuring high levels of redundancy, particularly important in global media applications where round-the-clock operation and availability are required. They will be available for deployment in the first quarter of 2001 and they supplement the company's Hurricane 1 MediaCaster(TM) line of video servers, which have been deployed in a variety of applications worldwide.

About USA Video Interactive
USA Video Interactive is an international designer and supplier of high-tech Internet streaming video and video-on-demand systems, services and innovative end-to-end solutions. The USA Video Interactive patent for store-and-forward video, #5,130,792, was filed in 1990 and issued by the United States Patent and Trademark Office on July 14, 1992; it is considered a pioneer patent in the field of video-on-demand and Internet video. It has been cited by at least 133 other patents. In 1999, USA Video Interactive was awarded similar patents in England, France, Spain, Italy and Germany; the company has patents pending in Canada and Japan. The USA Video Interactive patented video technology gives users full-motion video; the flexibility of standard, VCR-like controls; and the convenience of a standard internet-browser format for access. It provides video images significantly faster and at a higher degree of resolution than with previously available methods; significantly overcomes bandwidth restrictions; and eliminates the blockiness and slowness of current technologies -- all at a lower cost and at or near broadcast quality. USA Video Interactive is nearing completion of a patented Wavelet compression technology that will further enhance the company's ability to deliver Internet video to home modem users and reduce storage and download-time requirements for all users, including those with broadband connections.
