CNBC Begins Construction On Multimillion-dollar State-of-the-Art Global Headquarters; Governor Christine Todd Whitman Joins CNBC Executives To Commemorate Groundbreaking Business Editors FORT LEE, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 21, 2000--CNBC, the global leader in business news, began construction today of its new, multimillion-dollar, state-of-the-art global headquarters. The headquarters, which will be built on a 22-acre plot in Englewood Cliffs, N.J., will house a high-tech newsroom capable of monitoring the global economy by capturing real-time data from 44 financial markets around the world. CNBC held a ceremony today to commemorate the groundbreaking, hosted by CNBC anchor Sue Herera and Bill Bolster, president of CNBC. New Jersey Governor Christine Todd Whitman and Mayor Joe Parisi of Englewood Cliffs also participated in the ceremony. CNBC's new headquarters will be part of the corporate corridor on Sylvan Avenue in Englewood Cliffs often referred to as "the million-dollar mile." Other prominent companies in the area include Lipton, Best Foods and Conopco. The new headquarters, which will house CNBC, CNBC.com and NBC Cable Affiliate Sales, will be built in two phases. Phase one will be a 300,000-square-foot building that will include three studios totaling 25,000 square feet in a column-free 35-foot-high space; 40,000 square feet of technical support space; high-tech conference and meeting rooms; a fitness center; a dining facility; employee lounges and a heliport. Phase two will encompass an additional 200,000 square feet of office space and will be developed to support CNBC's growth as needed. The new headquarters will house more than 700 employees. CNBC's global headquarters is currently located in Fort Lee, NJ. The company plans to move to its new facilities in August of 2002.
