Agilent Technologies Forms Manufacturing Test Business Unit; Kamran Firooz to Serve as Vice-President PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 21, 2000--In a testament to the rapid expansion of the printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) test industry, Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A), a leading provider of innovative technologies for communications and life sciences, announced today it has formed the Manufacturing Test Business Unit. Comprising the previous Manufacturing Test Division, the unit will be headed by long-time industry leader, Kamran Firooz, who will now hold the title of company vice-president.
"We have seen tremendous growth in our PCBA test business," Firooz said. "This reorganization will allow us to better manage processes while consistently delivering the right test at the right cost to our customers."
The new business unit will be based in Loveland, Colo., with operations in Singapore and sales and support offices worldwide. It will include divisions focused on electronic test and imaging.
The Manufacturing Test Business Unit will be responsible for Agilent's worldwide structural and process test solutions for PCBAs, featuring Intelligent Test technologies and solutions in Automated Optical Inspection, Automated X-ray Inspection, In-circuit Test, TestWise and AwareTest Intelligent Test Software Solutions. Agilent test systems are used by most manufacturers worldwide to test a variety of electronic products, such as networks, cell phones and many other PCB products.
Firooz, a 26-year veteran of Agilent and Hewlett-Packard Company, served as general manager of the Manufacturing Test Division prior to being named vice-president and general manager of the new business unit. He has been granted four patents, all in the area of test technique. Firooz holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, a master's degree in computer engineering and a master's degree in business administration.
