The GOP realized a long time ago that they would lose the legal battle, so they have focused their energies on the political one. Personally, I want some very convincing proof that each and every ballot that was cast overseas was legitimate. The GOP has abused absentee ballots in Florida for years and that makes me all the more suspicious (see the New Yorker). But, it's pretty effective rhetoric for the GOP when they get on every political talk show possible and rail against Democrats for their "crimes" against the enlisted, however tenuous their claim may actually be. I don't find this any different than the GOP railing against the Florida S.Ct or the local canvassing boards for their alleged partisanship. It's merely an attempt to inflame public perception against Gore so he feels pressure to concede before the recounts are complete. I find the GOP's attempts to deny 49 million plus voters (btw do I need to mention more votes than Bush received) the power of their vote far more wicked.

The issue should die relatively quickly now that the AG has requested that all military ballots be counted, regardless of whether they have postmarks. I think this is wrong as it encourages GOP vote fraud, but the GOP inflamed and instigated the military quite effectively. So, the GOP wins a round in the political battle. The fact remains, however, that the GOP has yet to win a sig. legal battle and it looks like the final conflict will be decided when all the votes are hand counted in the 3 counties.

So, how can you defend the GOPs own memo?
