Well, that is a fanciful way to put it. Who do you think lives in the suburbs? Most of the cities have emptied out into the suburbs, leaving either the very rich or the fairly poor behind. Of course, in the last decade or two there has been some repopulation by the middle, but it has been slow going, and in many cities the net population transfer has been outgoing. In any event, the poor and working class far outnumber the affluent in the cities, and so your "urban sophisticates" are mainly homies, not college grads. And, of course, the suburbanites mainly voted for Bush.........
