KOREA'S CYBERUMS SELECTS NATURAL MICROSYSTEMS FOR NEXT-GENERATION IP-BASED UNIFIED COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM BUSINESS/TECHNOLOGY EDITORS FRAMINGHAM, MASS.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--NOV. 20, 2000-- DELIVERS

FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 20, 2000--

Delivers Integrated, Customizable Unified Messaging, VoIP Gateway
and PBX Capabilities for Highly Efficient Business Communications

Natural MicroSystems (NASDAQ: NMSS.O), the technology leader
enabling a new era of communications, today announced that CyberUMS, a
provider of unified messaging services in Korea, is developing its
next-generation unified messaging system--the HCI UMS(TM)--using NMS'
Alliance Generation(R), Convergence Generation(TM) and CX Series(TM)
IP telephony interface platforms.
CyberUMS' HCI UMS is a low-cost, highly efficient unified
messaging system offering small to medium-sized businesses an
intelligent call and Web mail solution, along with a range of features
and options for customized unified messaging services, via a single
Internet-based interface. Service providers and ISPs that deploy the
HCI UMS can support companies ranging in size from 100 to 1000
employees, to provide business users with a single mailbox for
managing voicemail and messaging, e-mail and fax messaging. The system
also offers text-to-speech (TTS) capabilities with support for diverse
communication devices such as PCs, pagers, telephones, mobile phones
and fax machines, and can be customized with different combinations of
options--allowing carriers to tailor services for varying market
segments or specific business requirements.
Increased use of mobile telecom services is seen as a potent
catalyst for growth of unified messaging worldwide, and penetration of
mobile services has already reached a high level in Korea. Unified
messaging presents service providers with an opportunity to offer
truly differentiated value-added offerings that will appeal to a wide
range of customers, including businesses, small office/home office
(SOHO) customers, frequent travelers and mobile workers. The industry
analyst firm Ovum Ltd., forecasts that the global unified messaging
market will increase from $272 million in 1999 to $31 billion by 2006,
with continued rapid growth well beyond 2006.
"In today's fast-paced business world, staying ahead of the
competition means staying in touch with employees and co-workers at
any and every moment," said Mr. Kang, President of CyberUMS. "Thanks
to NMS' products, CyberUMS can offer the carrier-grade reliability and
support for a wide range of call-processing capabilities across
multiple kinds of telephone and data networks, while giving companies
the flexibility to customize new services specifically for their
customer base and target audience."
CyberUMS has chosen to deploy NMS' technologies in a way that
supports extraordinary versatility for the HCI UMS. Besides gaining
flexible unified messaging and voice-over-IP (VoIP) capabilities,
CyberUMS is using NMS' technology to supply PBX functionality within a
single, integrated solution. This affords companies the additional
option of using a flexible software-based alternative to replace
switching functions now performed by existing PBX systems or key
telephone systems (KTS).
NMS' field-proven IP telephony interface products were selected
for deployment within the HCI UMS for the flexibility, scalability and
carrier-grade reliability they provide for VoIP as well as interactive
voice response (IVR), Web server, mail server, TTS and conferencing
capabilities. The CyberUMS system allows company's internal telephone
users to place and receive IP-routed calls using standard telephones.
The HCI UMS offers robust IP-based PBX capabilities that connect
multiple business locations and remote offices via a cost-effective
Internet interface for maximum flexibility and user convenience.
"Unified messaging presents an exciting opportunity for service
providers to deliver exactly what business customers and consumers
want: consolidation and simplification for all their communications,"
said Brian Demers, vice president and general manager of New Network
Services, Natural MicroSystems. "NMS is pleased to partner with
CyberUMS by providing carrier-grade products that service providers
can rely on to leverage new business opportunities, such as delivering
premium enhanced services that increase revenue per subscriber."
