I suspect Bush is afraid that he might lose with a statewide recount, and Gore seems to want one, which reinforces that.

I find it very rational for Bush to be against the recount. With election so close, he won the roll of a dice. Why should he get nothing for the first win in the first, and second rounds, and go to a third one to determine the winner?

Even though Bush would be going in with a lead and slightly better than 50% chance to win, why do it? Why throw away your win and go to another round, even though you may start with 50.00001 vs. 49.99999 advantage?
