John,

Have we parsed this whole election far enough yet? If Gore can't get enough votes from the manual recount, and this appears to be a good possibility, now it appears that the election may come down to figuring out the intent of a group of voters who failed to press their stylus far enough through their ballots to push out the chad, but far enough to leave a sign that the chad had been touched.

Do we know if the vote checkers will be comparing the other votes cast on the ballots that have dimpled or pregnant chads to see if the voter was consistent in their stylus pressure? It seems logical that if a ballot contains a dimpled or pregnant chad that unless many of the other votes cast by that voter were also similarly dimpled that the voter did not intend to cast that dimpled/pregnant vote. If the pregnant dimple is ONLY on the presidential chad, then the voter might have indeed not pressed hard enough or that voter might have had second thoughts and decided not to cast that vote. HOW DO WE KNOW?

Gore's frontman today, Senator Kerry of NB, is on TV saying that "elderly voters might not have had the strength to push the stylus all the way through [and caused those dimpled ballots] and those ballots should be counted." Give me a break! Are ALL the votes on the those ballots dimpled? If not, fagedabodit.

Barry
