APC Plans to Set up Indian Subsidiary [more details]
NEW DELHI, INDIA, 1997 MAY 28 (Newsbytes) -- By C. T. Mahabharat. American Power Conversion Corp. (APC) [NASDAQ:APCC], headquartered in West Kingston, Rhode Island, USA, has received permission from India's Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) to set up a wholly owned subsidiary in India.
APC is a worldwide market leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of power protection equipment, including surge suppressors, un-interruptible power supplies (UPS), power conditioning equipment and related software for computer and computer related equipment.
Based in Chennai (formerly Madras), APC's Indian subsidiary, to be known as American Power Conversion (India) Pvt. Ltd., is designed to enhance APC's regional customer service and other SAARC region customers.
Over the course of the next five years, APC plans to establish a R&D center and a manufacturing base in India, which is expected to employ and train over 500 people.
According to Sriram Sivaram, director, APC India, "As a result of the proliferation of personal computer networks, engineering workstations and file servers in the corporate workplace, we have experienced an increase in the need for reliable power protection."
APC will be investing US$1 million in spare parts and replacement units as part of its Swap Service Policy for all its customers covered by the comprehensive two-year warranty.
APC has been operating in India through its liaison office in Chennai over a period of two years and has established itself as a major player in the UPS industry in India. APC's product lines include the PowerCell, Back-UPS, Smart-UPS, Matrix-UPS, Line-R power conditioners, PowerChute software, and PowerNet SNMP adapters.
