NORTH AMERICAN SEMICONDUCTOR EQUIPMENT INDUSTRY POSTS OCTOBER 2000 BOOK-TO-BILL RATIO OF 1.17

SAN JOSE, Calif., November 21, 2000 -- The North American-based manufacturers of semiconductor equipment posted record orders of more than $3 billion in October 2000 and a book-to-bill ratio of 1.17, it was reported by Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI). A book-to-bill of 1.17 means that orders were 17 percent higher than shipments for the month, indicating an expanding market.
