Commerce One Vice Chairman and President Robert M. Kimmitt, vice chairman and president of Commerce One, to Xign's Board of Directors. Kimmitt joins Xign's growing board, which also includes Charles R. Schwab, chairman of the board and co-chief executive officer of The Charles Schwab Corporation (NYSE:SCH - news; PSE:SCH), and an individual investor in Xign Corporation. Kimmitt's distinguished career includes high profile positions in both the public and private sectors. Kimmitt served as U.S. Ambassador to Germany (1991-1993), under Secretary of State for Political Affairs (1989-1991), General Counsel to the U.S. Treasury Department (1985-1987), and Deputy Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs (1983-1985). Formerly he was managing director of Lehman Brothers, and a partner in the law firm of Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering specializing in international commerce.
Currently Kimmitt serves as president and vice chairman of the board of Commerce One, and is responsible for company operations, including finance, legal, engineering, and human resources. In addition, Kimmitt chairs the board of Commerce One Europe. He serves on the boards of several companies, including Mannesmann AG, Siemens AG, and United Defense Industries, Inc. During his career, Kimmitt has received several prestigious awards including the Presidential Citizens Medal, the U.S. Treasury Department's Alexander Hamilton Award and the Arthur Flemming Award for distinguished public service.
