Telekom Austria

Scurrile Hooplas

A stock exchange course [an initial public offering, ed.]on two continents to execute at the same time, even no simple thing this is for professionals. The OEIAG afforded with the largest transaction of its history however some particularly scurrile mistakes.

The most important moment in a stock exchange emission is the publication of the issue price.
At the Telekom Austria (TA) occurred this on a Sunday evening in one send New York restaurant, where the journalists and owner representative did not understand a word because of the noisy music.

OEIAG state control expert Wilhelmine Goldmann wrote the number of nine [E9] on a napkin and circulated it around the desk. Some though, read the paper wrong around and already thought the TA share will cost only six euro .

Explanations concerning this decision were available on the following day. OEIAG executive committee Johannes Ditz announced his press conference [scheduled] for 13 o'clock in another New Yorker restaurants, but he arrived with a half hour delay. Because of the timeshift therefore, the deadline of many Austrian newspapers has been missed.

They had it still better than the international media. The OEIAG arrived with large "Trara" on the New Yorker stock exchange, in order to prove their internationality, however no English-language press release was available [laughs].

The few international financial journalists who wanted to write about the TA, had translated the German press text by Viennese agency colleague. (ef, the STANDARD, print output 22,11,2000)
