Proportional allocation of electors in each state will be affected by rounding errors. Then there will be a nationwide recount of every state out there, haggling over rounding math, more idiots who claimed they voted for the wrong candidate, etc. Compared to this, the current antics in Florida would be nothing.

Exactly. Even though I like the Maine model, where they award 1 electoral college vote per congressional district and 2 for the statewide winner, the model is not very practical.

Right now we have 50 + 1 (DC) contests. Maine model would result in 435 (x 1) + 50 (x 2) + 1 (x 3) contests, and a close vote would still result in a total nightmare of a recount (especially manual).
