Having worked over there and in some of the Pacific islands, having power go off as they do is a big deal if it happened in the major US cities. Trust me. When it is easier to hop in a car and drive 30 minutes rather than using a telephone, things slooooow down.

But you are right that it was somehow way overblown as a threat. Glad I have farmers and thousands of acres in my family so I don't have to wonder what to do if I had bought dozens of cases of spam. -g-
