NorthPoint shares fall on revised earnings

NorthPoint Communications, a wholesaler of high-speed Internet connections, faced a chilly reception Tuesday on Wall Street after the company revised its third-quarter sales results downward a day earlier.
The company, which provides digital subscriber lines (DSL), became the second such provider to restate its quarterly revenue this month. NorthPoint, following Covad Communications, reduced its quarterly revenue to $24 million from $30 million because of delinquent payments from its Internet service provider customers.
They serve the same customers. They use the same technology. They use the same medium. How comes ADSL looks alive for RBOCS and dead for CLECS? I answer: Because it is being rolled out by RBOCS just as a price paid to enter long distance.
