Nadine...another reason why he may have been unfavorable to hand counts is that there were no unifying standards as to which chads are legit...I can understand that..so just throw out the whole hand count...not unreasonable

Florida election law allows manual recounts and leaves them under the control of the local canvassing boards. (Excuse me, don't I seem to remember than Republicans are usually in favor of local control?)

I wish there were a statewide standard. I wish they had the Texas statewide standard, which seems reasonable. But they don't, and it doesn't seem reasonable to me, or much more importantly, to the Florida Supreme Court, to ignore all the laws that permit manual recounts just because there is no statewide standard.

If they were truly bothered by the lack of standards, they had several opportunities to ask for a statewide recount with uniform standards (Gore offered a statewide recount last week, and the Florida Supreme Court offered them a chance to ask for a recount during the hearing). They didn't take their chances; they preferred to continue bad-mouthing all manual recounts.
