hi gottfried

"And are you able to use any part of NU?"

oh yes. i installed systemworks2001 without a hitch. in fact, it installed faster and cleaner on win2000 than the three previous versions of nsw that i installed on either w95 or w98. the whole suite functions perfectly. i am discouraged to learn that there is no zip rescue disk recovery, but that is because if w2k not having DOS.

my symantec problems began when i then tried to add in norton personal firewall2000. on the previous version of nsw, this software integrated seamlessly. but it was not to be with nsw2001. symantec blames it on a new feature in win2000 called 'windows installer' that monitors installations and, if conflicts are spotted, rollsback the current install attempt. i feel that it is incumbent upon symantec to make their product work with win2000, not the other way around. but for now, i have agreed to do without npf.

in my recent 'investigations' into the inner-workings of w2k, i have come across a way to disable the 'windows installer' feature. i plan to do just that, then try to install norton personal firewall one more time.

long story endless, i am using the three major norton components.... 1)utilities, 2)antivirus and 3)clean sweep.

:)
