I don't think allegations of fraud are irresponsible at all. Not if you want the true intent of the voter. As a Gore supporter I would think you would welcome allegations of fraud. If they are not supported or proven, your guy has the stronger case. If they are not made, then the country has this underlying feeling they were cheated...and that won't go away.

There are many things Republicans have done that appear questionable - at best - but you don't hear the Gore side crying "fraud" out loud in a crowded theatre.

It is the Bush side that has employed the repulsive tactic of a negative public relations campaign. They have definitely taken the low road.
