Yes I saw that business about bigsablepoint, but after the fact. I went back and looked at the posts and found nothing particularly extraordinary. I was interested that the poster who claimed responsibility for getting BSP dumped kept saying that he had proof that BSP was a paid tout for Gore. A couple of things struck me about this: One, so what. Two, there is no evidence of this. And three, the proud informant later admitted that there was no evidence and he didnt in fact know jack about BSP.
There have been at least three people dumped from that thread for supposed transgressions.
It is true that SI is a private site and therefore protections of speech pretty much stop at the door. That said, I would argue that the essence of SI and the internet is free flow of ideas and information. That can get pretty messy -- see the Yahoo! boards -- but so what?
Maybe most disturbing is that there seems to be a bias on the part of SI. Orwell would find that comforting: All can post freely, but some will be more free than others. M2
