McCain lost all respect for Bush when D-Dubya-I rallied 'round the Stars and Bars to beat McCain in South Carolina. Bush had an opportunity before the South Carolina primary to distance himself from the symbol of white Southern racism, but Bush instead chose to embrace the Dixiecrat wing of the GOP. McCain, however, despises Gore more than Bush, so he campaigned some for Bush in the general election.

It shall be very interesting to see if McCain ties up the Senate in January, as he has promised, until something substantive gets done regarding campaign finance reform.

Bush's main battles in the Senate may not be with the 50 Democrats, but with the 50 Republicans.
