People keep saying things like this. I don't believe it. We all saw what happened to the original Celeron. It bombed. PR scheme or no, Rise/IDT/Cyrix chips just plain sucked.

There seems to be a general belief that the "ignorant" (for lack of a nicer word) buyers equate MHz with performance. In my experience, that's BULL. Ignorant users have NO clue what speed their processor runs at.

Have you ever done any type of user support? I'm talking about the group of users who equate "Internet" with "that blue 'e' thing" (and you wonder why Netscape has no market share?). They have NO idea if their computer is an Intel, an AMD, whatever.

These people are truly CLUELESS. They buy what a friend or the guy behind the counter tells them to.
