[Modem War. . .]

<<<Let them have the ISP's ...the RBOC/GTE war is big enough for Amati.>>>

Bob --

You're absolutely right and you've given me a great lead for a quote from today's LA Times. In an article about the AT&T-SBC merger proposal, the article says the talks "are another sign that the industry is moving toward greater concentration rather than the competition legislators had hoped for.

"All the telecommunications companies are specializing," [quoting David Roddy, chief telecommunications economist at Deloitte & Touche and a former member of the Justice Department's antitrust division.] "Sprint is going to do wireless, MCI is going to do international, GTE is going to do Internet [my emphasis] and Bell Atlantic and Nynex are going to be a big local carrier. AT&T has been sitting at this buffet trying to figure out what to eat." >>>

Others say it'll spur competition, but the GTE quote is what made me smile. If you were going to choose who to be aligned with, you could do worse. :)

Cheers!

Pat
