Hello, J Fieb. I was not aware of Demeter.

$146 million strikes me as very generous for an outfit that was just founded three months ago, but they must be in the right space at the right time, with their direct modulation at 10 gigabits.

El Monte is near Monterey Park, east of LA, so the "extensive experience in manufacturing laser diodes in large volumes" was probably gained at AXT's Alpha Photonics subsidiary. Also, according to their latest 10-Q, AXT is currently constructing "a 27,000 square foot building in El Monte, California to expand HBLED and VCSEL production."

It appears that Ted Young has done a good job of enhancing shareholder value for himself and the other shareholders in Demeter. The press release describes Demeter as privately held, so AXT cannot be a majority shareholder. I'm curious as to whether they own any shares at all. A replay of tonight's webcast will be available by tomorrow at Finisar's website.

Today's press release from Finisar:
Finisar Corporation Announces Acquisition of Demeter Technologies

I could use a "Big Bang" in my portfolio - at least it would be expanding!
