Cheney is not going to continue to run , is he serious ?
Cheney forsees no trouble serving, despite heart attack WASHINGTON, Nov. 22 (UPI) - Republican vice presidential candidate Dick Cheney, who underwent a heart procedure Wednesday, said he does not anticipate that any medical difficulties would keep him from performing his duties if the Republican ticket is declared winner in the presidential election. He said in a telephone interview from a Washington hospital he would "have no problem serving All we have to do now is get elected," he joked. Cheney went to the hospital early Wednesday after experiencing chest pain. Doctors performed an angioplasty - inserting a device to improve blood flow to and from the heart. Cheney, speaking with CNN Television, joked that when doctors performed the surgery, they "found no pregnant chads" in his body. Chads are the paper punch tabs that are at the center of the election vote recount controversy in Florida that has kept the result of the Nov. 7 contest in doubt. Cheney and his presidential running mate, Texas Gov. George W. Bush, need Florida's 25 Electoral College votes to clinch the White House. When asked if the past two weeks have been stressful for him, Cheney replied they have not been as "stressful as during the Gulf War" when he served as secretary of defense under Gov. Bush's father. Cheney has a long history of heart disease - including three heart attacks between 1978 and 1988 when he underwent cardiac bypass surgery, but doctors said he should be able to return to his normal routine within a few weeks. |
