I'm aware of the distinctions, but I thought I'd use a catch-all term (DOCSIS) since it has come to be known and associated with the overall architecture. But your points are all valid, and I appreciate your bringing them to the discussion. BTW, the major overhaul you described "was" the system tweaking and settings that I referred to, but I was just being kind ;-)

While I have your attention, what do you think of the possibility of STBs (set top boxes) supplanting the stand alone modem at some point, both in form and in the designated spectrum plan sense?
