Is this system corrupt or what?

Tobin, who has prevented the development of the Voisey's Bay nickel deposit to serve his own political ends is in no position to pass judgement on anyone.

His boss Chretien, after a call to the head of the Business Developement bank, takes the money from the Business Development Bank as payment for a real estate deal in which Chretien is the prime benefactor. Both the head of the BDB and the "Ethics Councilor" are Chretien appointees!!!

Then the Chretien appointed "Ethics Councilor" has the audacity to say that everything looks swell!!!

Who can lower the standard for political ethics now!!!

Welcome to The Canabanana Republic!!!

Industry Minister Brian Tobin says Canadian Alliance Leader Stockwell Day is "cowardly" and lacks the "character" and "maturity" to occupy the prime minister's office. Mr. Tobin made the comments in a televised press conference on Wednesday, crticizing Mr. Day for continuing to pursue allegations that Liberal Leader Jean Chrétien acted improperly when he contacted the president of a Crown-owned bank about a loan for a friend in his riding. A report from the government's ethics counsellor, Howard Wilson, cleared Mr. Chrétien on Tuesday, saying there are no rules prohibiting MPs or ministers from contacting the heads of Crown corporations on behalf of their constituents. "I know something about the responsibility of leadership," Mr. Tobin said. "And I know something of the pressure of leadership and the pressure of being the first minister in a government. "It's clear to me that in this last week of the campaign that Mr. Day has demonstrated he has neither the character nor the maturity to handle the pressure of leadership in Canada. In particular, the pressures associated with the office of prime minister." Mr. Tobin said Mr. Day will be judged by voters on election day for his actions, saying "Canadians recognize cowardly attacks when they occur." Canadian Alliance Leader Stockwell Day reiterated at a morning press conference that he was not satisified with ethics counsellor Howard Wilson's report, saying Mr. Wilson had not answered the questions asked in the letter he wrote requesting a probe. He also said that Mr. Wilson's position should be more independent, and should report to Parliament. Mr. Wilson was appointed by the Prime Minister in 1994. Mr. Day also used his televised morning news conference to outline his platform positions on the need for parliamentary reviews of major government appointments, such as the heads of Crown corporations or Supreme Court justices. And he called for more free votes for members of Parliament. "We have to restore ethics and integrity to government, and this is one way in which we will do it," Mr. Day said.
