Datek's arrival is good news for Canadian investors currently serviced by uncompetively high commission rates and slow web-sites. Questions:

Is Datek web based or direct access? Web based is too slow for day trading.

Does it charge extra commission for shorting stocks? For example, TD Waterhouse (Canada) charges $60 commission to short a stock, whereas, many U.S. firms do not charge extra for shortng. TD explains that it requires manual intervention when a stock is short... which is just an excuse to charge a higher commission rate.

BTW, I've just received a letter from TD on their new web-site for President Accounts and high volume traders. Anyone here have comments on how you find their new web-siite.
