Let me get this straight. As long as you don't put in place a rule that says it's wrong, it isn't wrong. Hmmmm.

I'm gagging the hypocracy of all this. The PM sells a hotel but retains an interest in the adjacent golf course. The purchaser, who has a criminal record, is denied a loan by a federal Crown corporation. The PM, who appointed the head of the Crown corp., phones him and has him over for a chat. The buddy then gets the loan. The PM says it didn't happen, then he says that he's doing his job as an MP. The PM refers enquiries to the ethics commissioner that he appointed and who answers to him.

And he demands an apology???

There was a time when society as a whole agreed upon a certain standard of conduct. You didn't need ethics commissioners to tell you when some things were wrong; everyone recognized an "apparent conflict of interest" when they saw it.

During the Depression, there were people who preferred to starve to death rather than take government assistance. Now there are people who will riot in the streets if anyone suggests that the growth rate on their support payments should decline. Is that change any surprise, with the kind of morals Tobin and the PM and Elinor Caplan and and and all display?

The thing that really makes me want to puke is that they will get their third majority on Monday, so they will feel vindicated in all their actions. Not only will they be even more insufferable, they'll be encouraged.
