XENOTECH INC ("XEN-Y")
- Patents Granted In U.S. and Australia For 3D Display
Robert Baker, President and Chief Executive Officer of Xenotech Inc. is pleased to announce that it has been granted patents in the United States and Australia for its leading-edge technology in three dimensional (3D) display systems.
The technology, being marketed initially to the arcade games industry, makes it possible for single and multi-users to play 3D games without the need for special glasses.
According to Robert Baker, President and Chief Executive Officer of Xenotech, "Negotiations are in the final stage for the licensing of manufacturing rights for Japan with one of the world's market leaders in arcade game machines. It is hoped that full-scale production will begin next year."
Xenotech has also filed patent applications for using related technology in 2D display systems for the international market. "With market leaders continually searching for new technologies, Xenotech is positioned perfectly to be a major player in the industry," said Mr. Baker.
While Xenotech's technology has been officially recognized as being unique, the company's future is not limited to the arcade game industry. The results of 3 years of research and development include innovations such as:
- A computer-based system for converting existing 2D movies and videos into 3D.
- Transmitting converted 3D images over standard broadcasting systems for television viewing allowing the viewer the option of watching in 2D or 3D.
- Viewing glasses to allow viewers to watch 3D images on standard television and computer screens.
- A special adaptor for 2D film and video cameras which allow instant conversion for filming in 3D.
Commercial applications of this technology are being pursued actively by Xenotech. "At the request of several major U.S. movie studios, we have converted a number of blockbuster movies from 2D to 3D for possible release in theatres and on television," said Mr. Baker. "We are also negotiating with large cable television providers who wish to offer their subscribers a 3D service," he added.
The key to consumer acceptance of 3D on television, Mr. Baker explained, is to eliminate the annoying flickering image associated with currently available 3D glasses. Xenotech is developing unique flicker-free 3D glasses which work equally-well for viewing on television or computer screens. In addition, Xenotech's proprietary 3D technology is enabling it to develop unique software for applications in the special effects industry and for developers of computer and arcade games.
