PW, you're the expert. Just one thing you might have overlooked: Dave already had his pc booted into DOS.
Then he tried to execute setup.exe on his CD and was told it couldn't run in DOS. Could it be his CD is an upgrade CD [requiring an older version of Win to run]? A complete Win CD should be installable from DOS.
