Good points, Tech -- About "The Right to Vote ..."

When you think about it, that's a very limited right. Not granted to some of the most thoughtful, intelligent and well-informed people in this country ... if they happen to be 16 or 17 years old. Revoked for most of the 2,000,000 in our prisons. Denied to most patients in mental institutions.

Inasmuch as these and other revocations and denials of the "right to vote" are Constitutional, it makes it pretty clear that voting is a privilege and not an absolute right, in the same vein as "the right" to operate a motor vehicle.

I think the so-called right is vote is effectively forfeited by people by who demonstrate themselves to be too mentally impaired to be able to follow simple instructions for completing a ballot, or who fail to check their ballot, as instructed, before submitting it, or who are unwilling to ask for help in the event of some uncertainty, or who fail to prepare themselves properly as to what will be expected them at a polling station.

Citizenship confers not only rights, but also corresponding responsibilities. This ridiculous nonsense about butterfly ballots and dimpled ballots is yet another instance of leading people to believe that whenever they screw up, it is never their own fault... they are always to consider themselves "victims." Definitely part of the Democratic Party platform.
