Thank you Jim, I've been waiting for one military person to come forward and tell us how the absentee military ballot works.

Yes, but that's how it works for anyone who is overseas, whether they are stationed with the Military or transferred by a private company. However, it's my understanding that personnel at military bases, unlike many private citizens, have a voting officer who is there to encourage and help them to register to vote. It is certainly in the military command's self interest to see to it that their people vote, and that they follow the correct procedures when they do so. If they are not doing an adequate job in making that happen, then it seems to me that at least some of the responsibility belongs there.

And, just to avoid any misunderstanding, let me reiterate that I do not believe that absentee ballots from the military should be thrown out solely for lack of a postmark. What I object to is the cynical uses being made of our soldiers by both sides, neither of which has their best interests at heart.
