I don't think that Intel's demand for the return of documents relating to their (future) products is a minor distraction. It is telling DEC that Intel is not going to support them directly. Of course, they can always go out in the open market to buy this technology but without technical assistance from Intel, they will have an extremely difficult time being competitive.

I fail to see what Justice has to do with this whatsoever. Intel is reacting to a move by DEC to damage them greatly. They do not then have to participate in a business relationship with them. This is not restraint of trade. It's good business.

As far as a foreboding for other customers of Intel, I would say that they should think real carefully about suing them and if it encourages any of them to support alternative processors, that could be described as encouraging trade - not restraint.
