It has been roughly 30 years since, but I recall Siddartha, Steppenwolf, Damien and The Glass Bead Game as 4 of my favorite Hesse novels. At the time the Glass Bead Game was my favorite. Probably because of my dedication to chess in those years.

The 20th century was one of realization that a cross- disciplinary approach of combining scientific disciplines, like Astronomy, biology, chemistry, Mathematics, Music Theory and many others could produce some inherent common ground.

The Master of the Game had to be a Master of all of these fields. That is why he was the Master of Castilia, home of all the Masters. If you still enjoy Hesse and have not read it, it may be just the item to bring along on your next vacation.

Well, John, you are a multi-faceted fellow. I would not be overmuch surprised if next you tell me that you studied at Julliard. Hope that your Thanksgiving was a good one.
