So many people seem to be incapable of understanding what the view looks like from the other side.

Maybe it's not "incapable." Maybe they're just so intent on expressing themselves that they don't care how their messages are received or they only care about that part of the audience that intuitively agrees with them.

It seems to me that if one feels so strongly about something, one would want to convert others to one's point of view. Just repeating the same slogans over and over and louder and louder isn't going to change anyone's mind. Converting other requires an understanding of how the others look at things and then framing your message to resonate with them.

On second though, maybe "incapable" is it after all.
