Karen, they didn't come right and blatantly say they were targeting military votes. That would have been stupid!!

But the effect is the same, nonetheless. And Newt was accurately pointing out that this was not targeted at liberal Jewish voters from Israel, since it would be quite apparent that they would have the proper postmarks.

Military folks are clearly different in that their mail is picked up by the military postal "service" (to use the term loosely.. :0) when it is convenient, transported to the nearest civilian APO outlet and postmarked at THAT LOCATION.

To even believe that they should be disqualified on the basis of postmark, as the memo stated, is clearly an attempt at exploiting an obstacle that is not under the servicemember's control.

And yes, I read that article. It was discussed a week ago in either the Post or WSJ. I was having lunch at the Palm restaurant here in DC when it was pointed out to me.
