Amazon Web site crashes on busiest shopping day SEATTLE, Nov 24 (Reuters) - The Web site of online retailer Amazon.com Inc. <AMZN.O> crashed on Friday, one day after Thanksgiving Day and traditionally the biggest shopping day of the year in the United States. A message on the Web site, at amazon.com, said Amazon's books, music, video, toys, electronics and home improvement stores were "closed temporarily" but gave no reason. The site appeared to have crashed for about 30 minutes, and was up and running again at about 9:30 a.m. PST (12:30 p.m. EST). Officials at the Seattle-based company were not immediately available for comment. Amazon's Web site has crashed before. In July, the site was down for about 40 minutes just hours before it reported its second-quarter financial results. That closure was caused by what a spokeswoman described as a "hiccup" in the system. Shares in Amazon rose $2-13/16, or 11 percent, to $28 in early afternoon trading on the Nasdaq on Friday.
