ComDev optimistic, seeks partner

By Business Media Network staff

Toronto-based satellite firm Com Dev International announced on Thursday it expected revenue
to grow by 50% in 2001 for its satellite products division, if it is able to find a partner to share
the cost of research and development.

According to Com Dev, analyst expectations are easily achievable if the company can find a
partner for its wireless product. Although it intends to penetrate the lucrative Asian market, high
costs for research and development could impact earnings for 2001.

"We are looking for 50% top-line growth for next year," said Keith Ainsworth, Com Dev CEO.

The company makes fiters, antennas and amplifiers for satellites. It is creating a product called
M/ERGy, which delivers high-speed Internet access to customers, even while travelling at speeds
of up to 160 kilometres an hour.

Ordinary wireless connections through mobile phones normally cannot maintain signals at that
speed. It also is much cheaper than other systems, according to Com Dev, with a deployment
cost of one-quarter to one-eighth of an existing network.
