Actually, Cantwell is still for sale. From Holman W. Jenkins Jr.'s Wednesday Business World column in the "Wall Street Journal":

"You had to read between the lines to notice that Ms. Cantwell (like New Jersey's Senator-elect Jon Corzine) had lent money to her own campaign. How do such self-financed candidates get paid back? In office, they pass the hat among the usual donors who naturally would have business before a now-sitting U.S. Senator. And because the money goes to repay the money lent personally to their campaigns, the donor is effectively putting cash directly in the candidate's pocket. Only the self-deluded would consider this a less corrupting way of financing a political system."
