RON,
I think those numbers are last quarter (Jun) FDR200 "shipped" numbers. I think those where the numbers bandied about in the CC before last.
If so, then Hopefully with Compaq, Toshiba, and Dell, those numbers could triple/quadruple/quintuple/sextuple/septuple/octuple, in the near future... (sorry about that, been trying to get my Xmas wish jusssssttttt right *<(;-)> )
Remember, the usual memory disclaimers apply...
The finger on the pulse of security Wednesday 22nd November <excerpt> Well at the recent Comdex show in Las Vegas the number of biometric security devices was larger than ever. Voice recognition programs were shoulder to shoulder with pen tablets that, it is claimed, can distinguish the way a person signs their name and use this as an identification tool. Another contender was the "fingerprint scanner". Dell Computer Corp plan to sell fingerprint scanners on cards that can plug into laptops to enable these notoriously insecure devices to beef up their defences. Indeed, there are already several users in the commercial world that are exploiting "fingerprint logon", much to the relief of the help desks concerned; it is easy to forget a password, it is much more difficult to leave your fingers at home.
