Panama declares state of alert along border with Colombia
PANAMA, Nov 23 (AFP) -

Panama has declared a state of alert along its border with Colombia, fearing rebel or paramilitary attacks, Justice Minister Winston Spadafora said Thursday.

Spadafora told media that Panama's intelligence services had received information that Colombian groups were planning attacks on the border towns of Puerto Obaldia and Maliwita between December 14-16.

The minister added that Panama's border police and local Kuna natives last week had reported the presence of "armed men dressed in camouflage," believed to be Colombian, in the area.
