KCFOS: You put some good thought into that union piece. Keep up the good work.

You know, in a union shop it's amazing what a worker will do for his boss if management treats Joe or Jill Worker fairly, honestly, with respect and dignity, and cuts him a break now and then. That's what good management is all about: Simple stuff you learned in grammar school.

You write: "If there were an ideal place to work, it would be a place where all participants get to share the gains or losses of a company on an ongoing basis."

You're not preaching communism, are you!? (Just kidding.) Actually, the more enlightened companies do offer profit-sharing, stock options and 401(k) matches for employees. Give a union worker a little piece of the pie, and he or she will give you consistent, quality work.
