Hi George Acton; Republicans using physical violence and intimidation? Hardly likely in a strongly Democratic county. More likely is that some guys put a stunt on for the benefit of the TV cameras. If there was a real riot, the (democratic) authorities would have called in the police and made mass arrests.

It is true that the far right wing is more likely to use violence than the far left wing, [i.e. "Eat your vegetables, not your animal friends." vs "You can take my gun out of my cold dead fingers."] but I don't think that this is an example. Everybody is way too civilized for violence. Were any weapons even displayed?

And anyway, since both candidates got darn near 50% of the vote, either won ending up in office would not be a bad approximation of the "will of the voters." This election is way too close to be "stolen". But the contestants sure are getting ornery.

The US has a history of electoral violence, but we haven't seen any so far. Nobody's been killed yet, but the timing isn't far off from that of the civil war: The democrats and republicans disagreed about the presidential election in November 1860. Southern states left the Union in the winter of 1861. Actual fighting didn't erupt until the summer or late spring of 1861. (If I recall my history correctly.) It takes quite a while to get stirred up to the point of killing people over a stupid election. Let's not go there. If we do, I put my money on the Republicans, (and gold)...
