Polvie and abstract, part 1

Bland has recently stepped up his posting activity on SI and correspondingly reduced it on Yahoo over the past month, largely for reasons relating to the political debate. Many of Bland's friends and fellow posters on Yahoo are Gore supporters, and rather than running the risk of hurt feelings and misunderstandings among friends there he has grown to love and respect, bland has chosen to post on venues where his own political leanings were more the norm, until the situation is resolved.

Bland is copying here below a post he wrote on his private club on Yahoo to explain his attitude and approach on the matter:

Prince, re your post on RICK's

I have thought a lot about this myself and decided some time ago that the tactful thing to do, for me personally, was simply to post any of my own political views, comments, and links elsewhere, not here, not at RICK's.

My feeling that this would be the best way for me personally to handle it was confirmed, imo, after witnessing RR's exchange with CKSG. CKSG held out a geniune, sincere olive branch and RR very bitterly brushed it aside. I was quite disappointed to see that.

There is no need for things like that to happen. In both politics and religion, people believe what they believe for reasons that are cogent and workable for them. I'm not an evangelist in either arena, and I don't feel any desire whatever to prove I'm right about anything by verbally bludgeoning anyone else into weary and annoyed submission. There is no sense in getting confrontational or abusive with private, thoughtful individuals about any of this. The world is already full of too many people who are only too happy to tell you ad nauseum how right they are and ergo how wrong you must be if you can't see things their way. About anything. On any side of any argument. I'd rather not contribute to any of that, if it's simply a battle of egos rather than an exchange of views and information.
I'm not here to prove myself personally right about anything at someone else's expense.

All that said, I don't mind other members posting their thoughts or opinions here and it doesn't bother me to read them as long as it is all kept respectful...I think that's what we all really want to find here. In the interest of maintaining that, I've just chosen not to address any of it at all here until the whole situation is resolved and we can go on about our regular business of being constantly manipulated by unscrupulous analysts.
